We are nearing the 40th anniversary of the International Anarchist Gathering held in Venice in 1984 (for those who were not there, here is the link that gives an account of the many aspects of that event: https://centrostudilibertari.it/ven84-homepage).
Given the significance this meeting holds not only for our own history but also for the history of the international anarchist movement, which participated in massive numbers from thirty different countries, we could not help but come up with something to live up to the occasion!
We are therefore announcing that from October 18 to November 15, we are organizing in Venice, in the very places that witnessed those glorious days, a program of events that will revolve around an exhibition, curated by Elena Roccaro (who has just discussed the Gathering in her graduate thesis) and Fabio Santin (who curated the entire staging of Venice '84). The exhibition, dedicated to the many anarchisms present at the Gathering, will be hosted at Ca' Tron, a historic Venetian palace now a branch of IUAV University. There will also be other disseminated initiatives on the streets and in other friendly places: a psychogeographical tour of the Radical Venice, some thematic lectures to be held at the Tolentini palace – IUAV's headquarters where the 1984 conference took place , which will also be hosting a second exhibition on radical publishing –, and other small surprises (such as the screening of the film made at the time by the Hong Kong comrades of the "70's Biweekly" group). And certainly, a few of moments devoted to conviviality.
Needless to say, we would love to see lots and lots of you; with the schedule being finalized we cannot be more precise at the moment but we'll keep you posted with updates as frequently as we are able. In the meantime...save the date!
We will be updating our website with all relevant information as soon as it's available. For further information or any inquiry you can contact us.
