84/24 Anarchist Venice
From 18 to 30 October 2024
Cultural review on the International Anarchist Gathering that took place in 1984 in the public space of the city of Venice.
This encounter, a political, cultural, artistic, academic and convivial phenomenon, is presented and reactivated today, forty years later, through a series of meetings and cultural events including an exhibition entitled "84/24 Anarchist Venice. Choreographies of dissent on paper" and a series of related seminars at the IUAV University of Venice, curated by Elena Roccaro in collaboration with Prof. Sara Marini, the Centro Studi Libertari / Archivio G. Pinelli and the IUAV Student Senate. Other cultural initiatives such as concerts, performances and psychogeographical itineraries are also offered.
The review will explore the choreographies of dissent, with a focus on libertarian themes and practices, from anarchist publishing to field practice and cultural militancy. Through a comparison between yesterday and today (84/24) in the city of Venice, an interpretation of the space of freedom for divergent action, for anarchist – and libertarian, in general – cultural transmission is proposed, involving a series of actors who participated in Venice'84, but also new presences and contributions for unprecedented readings: interpretations, alliances and intersections in the space of a city that is less and less public and accessible.
The review is curated by Elena Roccaro, in collaboration with Prof. Sara Marini, the Centro Studi Libertari / Archivio G. Pinelli, IUAV Student Senate, Fabio Santin (ApARTe°), Marco Pandin (Rockgarage, stella*nera), the About Association.
