The Centro Studi Libertari / Archivio Giuseppe Pinelli was founded in 1976 with a twofold purpose: on one hand the establishment of a historical archive for the preservation of anarchist memory, and on the other the rethinking of anarchism in the light of the social context in which it operates with the aim of bringing it to the forefront as an alternative point of reference to the dominant culture.
The choice to dedicate our archive to the memory of Giuseppe Pinelli (1928-1969) was by no means an accident. Pino, an anarchist railroad worker killed on December 15, 1969 in the Milan police headquarters, the eighteenth victim of the state massacre that was the Piazza Fontana Bombing, was in fact a militant in the Milanese group "Bandiera Nera" in the 1960s. It was precisely his comrades who, in 1976, founded the Centro studi libertari/Archivio Giuseppe Pinelli, starting with that modest circle library that Pino himself took care of.

To date, the CSL has a library of about 8000 volumes and a substantial newspaper and periodical library, as well as a media library and an archive including several thematic funds; its cultural promotion activity can count to its credit dozens of national and international conferences and seminars, a number of digital archive projects, as well as the publication of a semi-annual Bulletin and an annual series of "notebooks" of militant biographies.
We are a nonprofit, independent and completely self-funded organization.
To keep this project active and independent you can become a Friend of the Center with an annual subscription (which includes a subscription to our Bulletin), or make a one-time donation via paypal, card or bank transfer (click here for more information).
